A building near Main and Terminal will be the next temporary shelter for homeless people to open under Mayor Gregor Robertson's plan to get people out of the cold.

The building at 240 Northern St. is expected to open Jan. 12 and have enough room to accommodate up to 100 people. Carts and pets are welcome.

"The plumbing is done, they're hoping to get the inspectors in today [Monday], and once we get the sign off from them and Vancouver Coastal Health, we'll get it open," said Vision Coun. Kerry Jang, who belongs to the mayor's homeless emergency action team. A building near Main and Terminal will be the next temporary shelter for homeless people in the city. It will be the fifth temporary shelter to open since Robertson announced his plan Dec. 9.
