We can mend the human tragedy on our streets

When a homeless man is fatally burned on our streets, quite possibly in his own sleeping bag, accidentally set aflame, you'd think people might kick up a bigger fuss.
What's shocking is that as a city we've mostly shrugged off this gruesome tragedy and gotten on with our lives. We've become inured to the people of the streets. We don't seem to have the energy to ask serious questions -- from the right or the left -- as to why the homeless are now seemingly a permanent fixture on the Vancouver streetscape.
The case that brings this to mind is the painful -- probably avoidable -- death of Darrell Mickasko.
