Reading the Text - Reading the World: The Growing Gap
ECONOMIC INEQUALITY & SOCIAL EXCLUSION
7:00 – 9: 30PM, MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2007
Grandview C alvary Baptist Church, 1803 East 1st Avenue
There are some commonly held sentiments around poverty in our country – the poor are just lazy, taxes are bad, the market will take care of it without government interference, etc. But what do the stats reveal about the growing gap between rich and poor and what can be done about poverty in British Columbia?
Rebecca Siggner, a researcher with SPARC BC (Social Planning and Research Council of British Columbia), will be joining us for an evening of presentation and discussion about the myths surrounding poverty and what kinds of responses might be envisioned. In addition, Dave Diewert will reflect on the biblical tradition of economic justice and the sharing of our collective resources. Be sure to join us on this occasion, and spread the word to others.
