Squat Update - Friday

Friends,
Day 6 has come and gone. As you know, the weather continued to be petulant but the sun came out just in time for a 'house-warming party'.
The Citywide Housing Coalition and Carnegie Action Project Group came to celebrate - bringing food, friends and special goodies to mark this day. A big pot of lentil soup warmed a lot of people and a beautiful cake which said "Squat! Oct 14-23" - Well done!" fed the many guests who dropped in to say hello. Media people came by and took some interviews.
David Eby reported on the legal status of the squat - the issues will be pursued in court in timely fashion and the squat will shut down at noon on Sunday.
Rider Cooey, in his "Mr. Vanoc" regalia MC'd the event - introducing people who sang and drummed for us and awarding the squatters with large gold medals. There was a great sense of joy and hope even though we know the road ahead is a steep one.
Please pray for continued safety, warmth and sleep for the 'campers' as the weather continues to hammer the area. Tomorrow will be the last full day, so we are hoping that things go well as everyone anticipates the closing of a very special community.
Keep in touch,
Al & Mia McKay
