Good Friday - Stations of the Cross
Our friend Barry wanted to bring this event to everyone's attention:
Station 1:
Begin from steps of First United Church, 320 E. Hastings, at 12.15p.m., with Philip Cable leading the reflection.
Station 2:
Walk to the Court House at Cordova and Main St., to symbolize the recent sentencing and subsquent death of a woman elder, Harriet N. This to be led by Sheila Paterson, also of nearby St. James Anglican parish, and thus within their bonds of concern.
Station 3:
Walk to the nearby north-west corner of Main St and Alexander, at that small park, named after a Dene woman some years ago and until the City's by-laws have been enforced, a place for the homeless to try to sleep; Mary-Anne to lead this.
Station 4:
Walk to the nearby Downtown Eastside Native Women's Centre and shelter, at the corner of Cordova and Columbia, as they have fought for the right, and support, to continue sheltering some of their people. This to be led by Sr. Elizabeth.
Station 5:
Walk on to the foot of Granville St., or Canada Place, where, among other presences, the Provincial Government's Cabinet offices are located.
Station 6:
Walk to the corner of Burrard and Cordova, the site of the Tourist Dept offices, where last mid-Dec./06, the last of the Advent Vigils for the Silenced followed up with others, out of Carngegie Action Project, to un-mask the contradictions in the policies of a red carpet for tourists while yet "under the carpet" for the homeless poor. To be led by Barry Morris.
Station 7:
Walk to the big Bank of Hong Kong at Hornby and Georgia, to hear about the influences of this major insitution, among many, on our cities' lives and policies. Led by First United's advocate and our faithful public witness committee member, Susan Henry.
Station 8:
Last stop to be the 2010 Olympic Clock, Georgia & Hornby, where Doug Peterson and Judy Graves will lead us in reflection.
